No matter how healthy you live, you cannot prevent yourself from occasionally becoming ill and needing medical care. It happens to everyone now and then and nobody is spared. You can register for DKV or another insurance policy, but the best insurance policy is different for everyone. One person needs more medical care than another, but everyone sometimes uses some medication or has to undergo treatment at the hospital. These costs can add up considerably, especially if surgery is involved. What is the best way to protect yourself against these (often unforeseen circumstances?) What options do you have when it comes to taking out health insurance? And what other things can you do to cover yourself as well as possible? We tell you here like a little more about it.
Of course the most important thing to protect yourself against high healthcare costs is to take out good health insurance. This will protect you against most medical expenses so that you do not suddenly face high costs. After all, illness or an accident always comes unexpectedly and you don’t always have the savings to pay for an expensive operation or treatment. You can cover yourself against these costs through a health insurance policy. The health insurance will pay for the care that you need.
However, keep in mind that a health insurance policy does not cover everything. In some cases you need hospitalization insurance to cover the precaution and aftercare of a certain route. This additional insurance also reimburses medical expenses incurred abroad. You can close this as quickly as possible because the premium increases as you get older. After the age of 69 you will not even be accepted at all. You must also complete a questionnaire. The younger you are, the fewer medical defects you have to mention. This also increases your chance of being accepted by an insurer. Another additional insurance that is usually (but not always) included in a hospitalization insurance policy is a waiting policy. This policy protects you against high premiums. Also, an insurer cannot refuse you if you retire or get fired.
A special insurance policy is the dental insurance policy. This too is usually not standard with your regular health insurance but is important. You will just have a hole or broken tooth. This can be quite painful and, if you do nothing about it, the damage to your teeth can only get worse. That is why it is advisable to see whether dental care is reimbursed by your insurer and, if necessary, to take out special insurance for it.
So make sure you are properly insured. Is all the care that you need or think you will need properly insured? Can’t your policy be cheaper somewhere else without sacrificing the cover they provide? And what about that insurance through your work? Is that your best option? Find it out every year so that you can switch if necessary.
